Whitewater

Exploring with the kids
by Dan Hartman

July 26, 2013

George Clokey was here with students from WhiteWater Wisconsin.  I usually take them out for a hike, so I thought I'ld continue my pika work and show them the Beartooths.

We first visited my pika colony just below West Summit.  Some were out and all got a good look so we moved on to the East Summit where thirty or so goats were in sight.  Several kids moved down for a closer look and were soon mingling with the nannies and kids.

At Rock Creek overlook, George and I discussed the value of white bark pine and threats to their survival.  George then shared his geological expertise in an impromptu lecture.

I left them theen as they drove on to Red Lodge and I returned to the pika colony.
